New Foster and a New Spring...

As some readers, clients and friends know we like to volunteer with animal charities. One of which is Saints Sled Dog Rescue founded by Heather Saville. It's a wonderful charity and all involved are one caring family, of which many members I now call friends.

"SSDR is a nationwide, voluntary run non-profit organisation, as we have now been approved for charity status. Our aim is to help as many unwanted and stray Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes as possible through the process of fostering and rehoming, or simply supporting their owners with help and advice. We also arrange and carry out educational visits across the country, including working and handling demonstrations.

We work alongside other rescue organisations, pounds and dog wardens to help ensure that all dogs are rehomed in the best possible environment for them."

Sadly SSDR had some very distressing news re 5 dogs previously rescued by a member of Saints. You can read the case via the website 'News' section. I was deeply moved by this, as was the entire team, especially hitting hard the founder Heather. Though I volunteer assessing dogs and using my gained behaviour experience with Fran, doing runs and homechecks, I really wanted to do more and decided I wanted to foster a dog. Giving a dog a chance to learn and live with my family, leading her to a forever home.

And so, with Kay my amazing Area Coordinator's help, I picked up Noma on Thursday with Fran. Noma needed to come into Foster after being relinquished, which seems to happen more and more with sled dogs. People do not realise the demands and behaviour of these breeds and can not see the dog behind the adorable puppy.

So please meet Noma, a gorgeous Husky girl of 2 1/2 years, who will be available for adoption in a few weeks. Noma is a bundle of fun, cuddles, kisses, love and energy, loving life, walks, dogs, the sofa and adventure, with us so far. If you are reading this and have a place in your life for a dog, please look at rescuing and give a dog like Noma a home and safe bed.

SPRING IS HERE!!!! A perfect time for walking dogs, exploring and simply enjoying the new blooms after Winter. The warmth is truly with us now and soon the sled dogs will need walking morning and night as the temperature increases. We are lucky to live near clear rivers within the woodland and bluebells, for the dogs to cool off. Time to enjoy nature at its fullest and newest with the honey bees collecting nectar to take back to their hives. The Wolf and Whippet are happiest during this these months...
